This issue is for keeping track of options for sequencing my DNA. Unfortunately, it seems all known methods require me to grant rights to my genes to the sequencing organization (including some copyrights!), so it doesn't seem apparent that I have the right to choose whether or not to open source it. Hopefully, we can understand more through this issue.
Objective: find a means for obtaining a complete genomic sequence without giving away any rights to the genes contained therein.
Options
Veritas — whole genome sequencing 👍 23andMe — does not grant exclusive rights
Low-cost genome sequencing efforts seem to retain some rights to the data when commissioned to sequence an individual's genome, which allows them to recover their investment by selling the data they've gathered (en masse). This makes it difficult to find a means for sequencing the genome at any affordable rate.
