the inside should be flush with the inside of the cross piece
the outside should be flush with the outside of the cross piece after adding a batten
The problem is:
The cross piece is ~132mm wide.
Add a 44mm batten to that and you get to 176mm.
The short struts are claimed to be 225mm wide.
Possible solutions:
The short struts get moved to be flush with the outside of the cross piece. They stick out ~90mm on the inside.
The short struts stick out about the same ~45mm on both sides of the cross piece. The batten gets added on the outside of the cross piece as show in the drawing.
Use a 175mm short strut instead of a 225mm one. The short strut gets mounted flush with the inside of the cross piece. The batten gets added on the outside of the cross piece ash shown in the drawing. Everything is flush now on both sides.
