Proposal: 5G community support

Elevator Pitch :

Release 1.7 will lay the foundation stone for 5G services, on top of which lot of other use cases will be realized.
Vibrant community members will be experimenting on various 5G services as part of their solutions. During the exercise there will be quite some questions around the offerings, deployment, installation, throughput etc. which needs to be responded promptly.

Through this proposal intent is to provide dedicated community members which can support the queries and also do regular maintenance, throughput benchmarking and validations with new Simulators and real equipment.

Project Details

Post the foundational releases for 5G SA as part of 1.7, their is a need to have a dedicated team to support various queries from different community members, evaluate any approaches, doing some bug fixing, throughput benchmarking, integrating the software with any updated automated test suites from open source/commercial vendors. Also team will be responsible to support CI/CD activities for 5G sa as required for smoother releases.

Delivery Approach

The team will be divided into 3 groups :

  • Testing Group : Will be responsible for analyzing new failures reported, checking on the daily regression report, generating the throughput benchmarks and adding of any new automated testcase as applicable.
  • Community Support Group : Will be responsible for responding on the queries from slack or any individual and either solving the query or helping the development/test group to reproduce the specific issues.
  • Development Group: Module wise owner will be there to solve specific queries or to check on for a specific request/issue. This will include members for MME, SessionD, Policy DB, Pipelined, orc8r, FeG etc.

Feature Roadmap

There will be a team of 8 engineers working for the support activities.
