Hey!
If one would like to use Quad IO, I think the init section should configure the appropriate mode.

Hi. In the example Verilog module the Fast Read Quad (0xeb) and Quad Write (0x3b) commands do work without switching to quad mode. However, using quad mode appears to save 6 cycles? per access. I agree it would be good to have that as an option.
