Feature request: Search on TNS name #239
Comments
This is done, please give it a try. |
Hi Roy,
Thanks for implementing this. However, while this seems to work for
AT2021apf, it doesn't work for other transients in the TNS - for example
SN2021csp gives me "SN2021csp not found in TNS " (this particular SN is
definitely in TNS, and is also known to ZTF as ZTF21aakilyd.
Cheers,
Morgan

While we have both SN2021csp and ZTF21aakilyd in the database, the connection between them has not been made. I find that some matching processes have been running out of memory. Let me rebuild next week and solve the memory problem. |
Ok, thanks!

Hi Roy,
Looks like some objects are still missing for example SN2020zhd /
ZTF20acphbem
Cheers,
Morgan

I think things are correct now about past TNS, and correct about
processing future TNS. Can you give it another try? And let me know if
you find any other discrepancies.
Roy

ZTF20acphbem has not had a detection since last December. It is in the old Lasair (https://lasair.roe.ac.uk/object/ZTF20acphbem/). But the new Lasair (https://lasair-iris.roe.ac.uk/) started recording data in February 2021, so we don't have it. |
Ah, I see. Personally, my feeling is that it would be quite important to
also include old data - there will be many transients where there is
some historical precursor activity that could be of interest. In
addition, there could be old transients on the TNS that were discovered
long before ZTF and that are on TNS where people would be interested in
any new activity.
If this is not technically possible to implement, then I think it should
be made quite clear to the user that the database only goes back as far
as X. Otherwise people may mistakenly think there are no ZTF detections
for a given transient.

On the cone search page (https://lasair-iris.roe.ac.uk/conesearch/) it would be very useful if a user could search by TNS name (ie. SN2021aaa / AT2021aaa) as well as ZTF name.
