In nbconvert 5.4, the usage of the kernel_name argument for ExecutePreprocessor changed so that an empty string no longer means "use the default kernel." Instead, the kernel_name argument shouldn't be set at all.

An implementation of the fix is in spatialaudio/nbsphinx#208.
