For example, something like the following would be useful for monitoring the cluster during deployments. It would also make it possible for us to alert on a threshold/duration of unallocated shards which would indicate a problem.

$ curl -s http://api.cityindex.logsearch.io:9200/_cat/shards?h=state | sort | uniq -c
   1 RELOCATING
   3 INITIALIZING
  18 UNINITIALIZED
 275 STARTED
