Many Game Gear titles show extra content when using the "Game Gear Extended Screen" on/off toggle feature. However, the total viewable area often needs to be cropped since each title will generally use only a portion of the total extended viewing area--leaving the remaining unused viewable area as garbage content. This extra unused area also negatively affects how the "valid" viewable content is scaled when viewed at full-screen. Adjustable left, right, top and bottom cropping would remove the garbage content and allow for the valid viewable content provided by the Extended Screen feature to be scaled as expected.
As an example, Shining Force Gaiden - Final Conflict provides a modest increase in viewable content with the GGES feature. However, without arbitrary cropping of the viewable area, the garbage content in the remaining unused viewable area makes leaving the GGES feature enabled undesirable for actual game play--marring what would otherwise be a really neat feature:
