build system doesn't want to use libirecovery

Running autogen.sh yields the following error:

checking for libirecovery-1.0 >= 1.2.0... no
configure: error: Package requirements (libirecovery-1.0 >= 1.2.0) were not met:

Package 'libirecovery-1.0', required by 'virtual:world', not found

Consider adjusting the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable if you
installed software in a non-standard prefix.

Which seems strange, considering that libirecovery is compiled and installed on the system. The machine is running EndeavourOS (which is based on Arch).
