[OLD] Windows 10 Installation Notes on Mac

The installation of OpenFOAM on Windows 10 on a Mac machine is possible through Bootcamp and Parallels.

OpenFOAM requires hardware virtualization to run. Although it is enabled by default on most PCs, Mac machines require an additional step once you are through with the Windows 10 Installation Notes.

Using Bootcamp

  1. Shut down (wait 10 seconds for a deep shut down).
  2. Boot onto MAC OS.
  3. Go to System preference, Start up disk.
  4. Click the lock to make changes.
  5. Select your Bootcamp partition.
  6. Click Restart.
  7. Find the OpenFOAM_Start shortcut on your Desktop and open it as Administrator. Default should be stated as running on the docker console.

Using Parallels

  1. Prior to start your Windows 10 virtual machine, go to Settings, Hardware, CPU & Memory.
  2. Go to Advanced Settings and tick "Enable nested virtualization" and "Enable PMU virtualization".
  3. Start your Windows 10 virtual machine.
  4. Find the OpenFOAM_Start shortcut on your Desktop and open it as Administrator. Default should be stated as running on the docker console.

These guidelines were noted for installing OpenFoam and running Butterfly on a late 2015 Macbook Pro.
