Questions & Feature Requests #841
-
Hello, First of all, I just want to say how much I appreciate your amazing work! As someone who uses both Windows and Mac, I’ve always wanted a smooth and seamless experience across platforms—and Kando is exactly what I was hoping for! I have a few questions and feature requests that I’d love to share:
I’ve tried other (kind of) similar apps like Charmstone and Pieoneer, but Kando stands out as the best in almost every way! However, app assignment feels a bit cumbersome compared to the rest of the experience. I believe adding a menu item that accepts raw file paths and automatically processes them (e.g., adding "file:///" and adjusting slashes under the hood) could make this much more user-friendly.
For an even better experience for users who prefer this kind of control, I think adding a dedicated option to refine this behavior—similar to how Charmstone handles it—could be a great enhancement: I feel like additional control option with these refinements could make the experience even more seamless while keeping Kando’s fluid workflow intact. Thanks again for all your hard work! I truly appreciate what you’re building, and I’m excited to see how Kando evolves. |

Woah, that's many points! First of all, thank you very much for the kind words! I'll try to provide answers to most of your points!
Have a look here. You can simply copy or backup the config files.
The format is the same, however your menus might not work as expected. Many configured apps and file paths will be obviously different on a different OS.
Maybe. I think most users currently install Kando via some sort of package manager, so they get updates automatically. On Linux there are many different package managers which ship Kando, on Windows you can get it via
It's planned. See here.
Using a fullscreen config dialog was a bad design decision. I'm currently working on a new settings dialog which will be a lot more user-friendly. You can see some early mockups here. You can also join our Discord where I post updates more frequently!
This has already been implemented for the next version. See the changelog.
