it appears there are environments that will run android apps on linux phones. just as there are virtual machines to run linux and android on windows or windows and android on linux.
you may want to look into that for the time being. it may be a stopgap solution to a multitude of app needs.

I think, back in 2009 Til Harbaum showed an OSM client for Nokia N900. That's linux. Might check out the maemo archives.
