Ability to copy/duplicate projects

Hi. Really nice looking app and well done on getting it this far. Still learning my way around it but looks really promising.

An idea for potential future enhancement.

I often do repeat things that I would like to structure as a project 'tree' and be able to use a base template to copy from. An example would be running interviews with candidates or regular meetings that have specific repeating elements.

It would be great if there was a way to be able to copy/duplicate a project and it's full structure to create a new one.

About duplicating projects I am not so sure. The thought never occurred to me to be honest :) What would you copy over? All tasks and settings? Or just name and color? Could you maybe describe a typical use case for that?

Hello Johannes. Thanks for getting back so quickly.

I know my initial description was a little vague, apologies.

I have two use cases in mind where I currently do this using another project/task tool (it is Windows based and I use a Mac for work so that is what made me look at this app). It is not a typical project or task management use case I suppose but it is really useful to be able to structure a discussion and capture notes. I also get it if you think it is not in the sweet spot of what you are trying to do with the app...

The easiest one to understand is something like doing an interview for new candidates. I create a project that is a template for each discussion and then copy that template when I do the actual interview itself and add the specifics of the candidate. I can then run the interview according to the copied structure.

A typical template structure/tree would look something like this

Project name - Interview template for"whatever role is being filled"

• Background
• Candidate notes <use notes field to hold details I feel are interesting about the candidate - added after copying template>
• Questions
  • Question 1 text
  • Question 2 text
  • Question 3 text
• Template contact

I would like to be able to copy/duplicate the whole template to a new project. I then rename the project to include the candidate name. It would be great if any level in the tree and it's children (even a single task) could be copied and inserted into another project but that is not critical.

Regarding what is copied I don't have a good answer, I need to experiment a little more. Often I include timings for questions (only a guide so that I don't get caught up in one and not get to the rest) but the bare basics of the name, structure and potentially colour would be a great start. I don't yet understand what all the settings on a task are yet, will dig into that a little more.

Thanks for explaining this in detail to me. Very interesting stuff! Logically I myself would see an interviewee more as a big tasks with sub tasks. Could something like a task template (with sub tasks) maybe be a solution too?

Maybe a structure like this could work too:

Task name: Interviewee name
Background =>  as  a link to an external document or as task notes
Candidate notes => task notes

Question 1 text => as a single sub task
Question 2 text => as a single sub task
Question 3 text => as a single sub task
Template contact => task notes

???

Yes, a task with sub tasks as a template would achieve this if the template can then be added/pasted into projects (or other parent tasks). I did not see such a 'template' capability when I looked, is this something the app does already or something you are thinking about?
