the xkbset usually last until the xserver restarts.
but sometimes (like when you close the lid on my laptop), it seems to clear the setting.
For me this is no big deal I just issue the command "baklava start' again.
But this would probably be confusing to anybody using it to get work done,
so maybe it should be a rule in evdev, or maybe a service in systemd.
perhaps add F1-F9 as Symbol Keys on 1-9.
perhaps add a few movement keys on the 8 keys that are easy to reach with left hand with pinky on tab:
wsedrtg
make some kind of feedback, audio, or on screen, indicating when mod-lock and caps-lock take effect
xkbset has options to do this i think
criteria to check on new revisions, make sure:
: works in qutebrowser
; works in matlab (when it is bound to the same key as Ret matlab sees it as 'Ret ;'
ctrl-shift-z works in inkscape as redo (sometimes inkscape does not see the shift and you get undo)
'ctrl-/ Ret' starts a new terminal in xmonad
consider moving away from xmodmap because
it is sooo confusing, and becasue it does not work with
wayland.
also using a low level hack cam make it work
with X11, wayland, and the bare console all in one go
this might solve a bunch of my problems,
such as xmonad not recognizing qwerky numbers,
or x2goclient ignoring qwerkey.
here are two possible ways to do this:
https://gitlab.com/interception/linux/tools
has a space2 meta plugin already probably easy to modify
to space2control
http://welz.org.za/projects/mxk
has a good tutorial
works with joy sticks, trackpads, etc
so might be good for adaptive gaming
pretty good online keyboard editor
http://www.keyboard-layout-editor.com
"Download SVG (Experimental)" does does not make a good file,
but "Download PNG (Experimental) works fine.
When you want to revise an existing .JSON layout,
in the RawData Tab you can "Upload JSON"
and that works quickly and reliably. Other methods like
copy & paste sometimes do not seem to have any effect.
Click on the Properties Tab to get out of the RawData tab
and go back to editing individual keys.

# 8 levels in xkb

TO SWITCH TO A VIRTUAL CONSOLE
Enable function keys ( Fn-Esc on my thinkpad lights up a green LED on the Fn
key)
ctrl+Alt_L F2 or space+Alt_L+F2
TO GO BACK TO X11
ctrl+Alt_L+F1 or space+L+Alt_L+F1
weird thing to note that space+L+Alt_L+F1 works to
get back from the console, because space is mapped
to control in X, so why does it work in console?
i rebooted and it it still works before starting x,
so i guss it is just a feature of the console.
it appears that the console switches on alt-FN so the space key is irrelevant in cosole.
