The RemoteDataToolbox is a Matlab command line api to use for retrieving and storing files from a Maven/Archiva database. We use the software to interact with a database we have set up on an Amazon Web Services (AWS) site. The software, designed by Ben Heasley, helps those of us working in Matlab to read and write files to that site.

The site currently contains several data sets that may be useful to vision scientists. You can browse some of the data, particularly those pertaining to spectral radiance measurements of natural scenes, at the links below. We expect that the data set (and its documentation) will grow substantially over the next two years.

Motivation

The Simons Global Brain Collaboration is supporting to create a software resource that captures our current understanding of the physiological optics, phototransduction and retinal processing that shape the visual signals transmitted from the eye to the brain. We envision this resource being accompanied by a repository of validation data, and being used to generate testable hypotheses about visual physiology and behavior. We hope the project will extend to portions of the visual system beyond the eye, and will be used in diverse disciplines including science, engineering, medicine, and education. Ideally, it will evolve into a centralized platform for understanding, sharing, and applying of our knowledge of the early visual pathways.

Repositories on the Maven site

There are very good data here, but we do not yet have a good front page describing them. Coming.
