Is there currently a way to set up a true satellite image map overlay instead of video feed, or a picture-in-picture function that would give basic OSD function over the map image rather than camera image? It would be a very useful function with the bing maps setup for an alternative OSD for geographic location in-flight reference, or with a transparency setting to appear with camera footage, or a picture-in-picture setup to allow for both camera and map displays.
Separately, or in conjunction with the map feature, a transparency feature for the OSD components might be useful.
I would even be OK with utilizing the Micro SD Blackbox port to store local to semi-local map files as long as the SD card can simultaneously record Blackbox logs while accessing map files. I'm sure internal flash memory would not be adequate on most flight controllers to contain map files, but another option would be a separate storage device connected to a UART for map file storage. This might also be useful for things like Remote-ID compliance features that most people will not use if it weighs more than a micro SD card. These features should be usable on F7 or H7 boards, but F4 might be unable to do this with modern receivers and GPS. These ideas might lead to the phasing out of the F4 processors in long-range setups.
I included all this stuff in one discussion location because it is all the same end goal, but in reality these are three separate projects.
