In the visor instructions, at test the LED strip, it is unclear how to "Run a test program". I tried just plugging the assembly into a 5V USB charger, and the board LEDs light up but not the strip.

Is the program preloaded onto the circuit playground express meant to run the LEDs?
Do I need to flash one onto it?
Is there a suggested one?

Also, in the text "For information about how to correct this, click here", the link is missing. I tried popping open the white cover on the LED strip and nudging the red + contact a little farther over toward the pad on the board but that didn't change my LED strip not lighting up.

It's unclear to me at this point whether the problem is that I need to flash a different program onto the board or the problem is the LED strip.

(I did manage to not crimp one of the connectors enough, which I figured out using a multimeter and corrected. At this point I'm confident the three wires connecting the board to the LED strip are good.)

Thanks again!

The 3-pin solderless connector is kind of a weak link in the parts that were received to make this run of Gopherbots, IMO. Sorry I did not complete the page with some info on how to correct this.

Basically, the + pin inside some of the 3-pin connectors is slightly misaligned. You might be able to just push it in a little bit. Otherwise, if you open up that connector, you can bend down the pin inside the connector with something like a toothpick, so that it sits more directly on top of the LED strip's copper pad. You might need to remove the LED strip, and then bend it.

Push it back into place, and then close the 3-pin connector back up. Make sure the connector clicks shut.

If for any reason this does not work, please email me and I will mail you another LED strip/connector that had been soldered together.

Thanks for the clarification about the washers and screws. Will fix mine. :-)

One last thing: what's the procedure for testing the LED strip?
Should it light up if I just plug in the board, or do I have to download a custom program to it?

The Circuit Playground Express board is preloaded with the "demo" program and should light up both the LED strip and also the NeoPixels on the Circuit Playground Express board itself.

Great, thanks. Knowing that it should be lighting, I was able to get the LED strip to start working by wiggling it a little in the connector.

I'd suggest changing the text "Run a test program" to "Run the pre-loaded test program", to make clear that the LED strip should light "out of the box".

Thanks again.

… connector is misaligned. This should address issue #4

I added some further information on correcting this issue in commit 2927da1

If you get a chance, please take a look @rsc and thanks to you
