I think it would be cool to have the option to build Slurm once and have it run run on any Linux distro at any location.

https://mesonbuild.com/Creating-Linux-binaries.html shows how this could be done. This involves statically linking everything in (it would probably end up being a large install, but who cares).

Some other things to look into would be to release a snapd version of Slurm. See https://snapcraft.io/snapd.

Seeing as most of the code is already ported over to Meson, we might as well try doing some advanced stuff like this that would be a pain in the butt to do in autotools.
