Great concept!
I think it is not yet fully documented, and Helgoboss asked to post questions etc. here (instead of Issues), so maybe a thread here makes sense.

One thing that I gathered, from his answer in #495 :

At the top level you always have the "kind", and there are 4 possible kinds:

• MainCompartment
• ControllerCompartment
• Mapping
• Mappings

What is below, has to be the same structure as when you export (which you can do for all except "Mappings").

Here is how you can export Lua:
• MainCompartment (export via: Export to Clipboard/Export as Lua)
• ControllerCompartment (export via: Export to Clipboard/Export as Lua)
• Mapping (export via right-click on Mapping: Advanced / Copy as Lua)
• Mappings (export via right-click besides Preset name: Advanced / Copy listed mappings as Lua)

@helgoboss : maybe unify the terminology (import(export vs. copy/paste)?
