What is the mode: netclient setting for?

From what I gather, the built-in NUT integration lets you configure Home Assistant as a netclient to another NUT netserver elsewhere on the network.

I thought that this addon only exists for hosting a netserver (i.e. for a UPS is directly connected to the the Home Assistant host itself), but I see this mode setting the configuration pane:

This begs the question: if the integration is waht handles netclient behaviour, than what does mode: netclient do here?
