I get the impression that the latter is the technical (legal, accounting) term. Apparently "tip" is confusing since tips in a restaurant aren't gifts. Gift tips are gifts.
Okay, "tip" may have been a bad choice. Kinda baked into the brand unfortunately (but see #138). :-/
