During a recent meeting, it was decided that in response to the "acquisition" of CentOS and its possible effects on the entire process of offering "re-spins" of the RHEL product, we would make a number of major changes to GoOSe to ensure the continued production of an RHEL re-implementation, adhering to the original goals of CentOS, on an independent basis without corporate influence.

Proposal

Deprecation of GoOSe

The GoOSe Project will be deprecated, and the build server will be shut down. While certain content (such as the code repository, website, and documentation) will remain archived for future reference, no more active development will occur with or on GoOSe's resources or platforms.

Transfer to Ascendos

All future development will be shifted toward producing EL6.5 and EL7 builds under the governance of Ascendos, a similar project established at around the same time which also aims to build an EL re-spin with an open community. The project's organization is modelled on that of Debian, also using a meritocracy-based approach. Certain developers from GoOSe may be awarded positions in the project based off their expertise.

Establishment of a CentOS SIG

Representatives from GoOSe shall attempt to establish an SIG within the "new" CentOS community, aiming for "interoperability" between re-branded versions of EL and its related products. This includes being able to take the SRPMs/SPECs as they were provided from upstream and rebuilding them without the CentOS infrastructure, documenting the process of tooling a rebuild, and providing feedback and reporting bugs to ensure upstream improves packaging, QA, ISO building, etc.

Under this model, Ascendos shall serve as a "reference implementation", but Ascendos itself will still be operated and marketed as a product and community separate from CentOS. Consider it an "embassy" for instance.
