Which font do I download?

The font file I have now from fonts.google.com works fine on my computer. I can use it on apps from Notepad++ to Photoshop and Illustrator. But after trying every new font here, none of them seem to work. Either they just don't install or they show up as blank in, for example, Illustrator.

What am I doing wrong here?

I see the same - the old (official) font works, and none of the new files.
Some time ago I reported a similar issue with OpenMoji here
If the issues are related, then the font creator of the official Noto release would know the solution.
Different toolchain or settings?

Meanwhile fonts.google.com was updated too, thus we have the latest version working.
