Is Session Replay (Open Beta) available for using the Sentry Client directly?

Hi all 👋 ,

I've been watching the AMA about the latest of the Session Replay Open Beta. Wanting to try try it out I figured out that the BrowserClientReplayOptions are only available for the Sentry.init({}) function. With our Micro frontend setup we use the Sentry client directly and would like to use Session Replay with new BrowserClient({}) aka BrowserClientOptions.

Is this something that is already possible or perhaps coming in the future?

Hey @koen-dev, thanks for writing in!

We had another user write in about this as well: getsentry/sentry#39460 (comment).

At the moment, the Replay integration does not support multiple Sentry instances, you'll have to only use one Sentry instance. There's a couple of blockers here for us, some of which I am listing below:

1. A lot of excess duplicate data being sent if every sentry client adds a recording
2. Figuring out exact behavior to link errors + replays
3. Possible bundle size concerns from duplicate code
4. Stopping ourselves from monkey-patching multiple times

We're going to update our docs/FAQ to make this more clear!

It makes sense that adding support for multiple Sentry instances would raise these blockers.

I think I ran into this because my app is powered by another tool, which probably uses/imports Sentry, and I also import Sentry with

          // Session Replay
          replaysSessionSampleRate: 1.0, // This sets the sample rate at 10%. You may want to change it to 100% while in development and then sample at a lower rate in production.
          replaysOnErrorSampleRate: 1.0, // If you're not already sampling the entire session, change the sample rate to 100% when sampling sessions where errors occur.
        

What should I do in that case? Set replaysSessionSampleRate to 0? Won't I miss failures then?

@DNA-PC are you a library that is using Sentry? Or is the other tool a library? Generally we don't recommend using replay with libraries, that has a lot of PII/privacy concerns as well.

I'm using weweb.io and building an app using this tool.
It's not really a library, more so an App builder.

I'd recommend reaching out to the weweb.io folks - seems strange they would add sentry to your production app (adding it to the no-code builder step I can understand).
