Question: Are there efforts to target non-net audiences?
Description
over the last few years, I have felt that most of the audience that gets targeted often is based on the .NET ecosystem, I'd like to know if there are efforts (besides I think Microsoft efforts to win some Python devs via .NET interactive including F#) to target non-.NET audiences
Why is this question important?
I think with F#/.NET 5.0 and the cross-platform capabilities we now have we could try to target other languages audiences as well, mainly I believe Javascript/Node thanks to Fable
Who will benefit from it and in which way? The F# community overall
Proposed solution and alternatives
I don't have a clear solution but I've been trying to post F# material that doesn't target .NET entirely and often explaining what alternatives on other ecosystems the post is talking about existing, I'm also trying to lower the friction with MongoDB since that's a popular database outside .NET ecosystems (particularly node with it's MEAN and MERN stacks)
How much work/effort do you think it will take?
A lot
In case you already have some ideas on how to address the issue, list them here.
I'd like to see more material that does a comparison between other ecosystems that aren't .NET, e.g. comparing Express/Django/Laravel to our current solutions in those aspects Giraffe, Saturn, Falco.
Provide better compatibility with tools those ecosystems are Familiar with (the mongo example above)
Are there any alternatives to this idea already?
Not that I know of
Why should we not do this? Any risks or doubts?
I don't think this poses a risk
Are you willing to help?
Yes
Would you be interested in helping with implementing the idea, or resolution of the question described?
Yes
Who could be interested to help?
Anyone that has a non-.NET background that has fallen in love with F# ❤️
Anything else relevant to the question or idea.
not that I can think of at the moment
