Structured defaultLocale for fallbacks

We're currently getting started with react-intl and am finding one thing challenging. By way of background, I've previously had substantial experience working with ruby's I18n gem. A key feature there since very early on (we're talking nearly 15 years) is that fallbacks (or "defaultLocales" plural) can be specified with a level of structure. For example:

I18n.fallbacks = I18n::Locale::Fallbacks.new(:"en-GB", :"de-AT" => :de, :"de-CH" => :de)
I18n.fallbacks[:"de-AT"] # => [:"de-AT", :de, :"en-GB", :en]
I18n.fallbacks[:"de-CH"] # => [:"de-CH", :de, :"en-GB", :en]

Thus there is a cascade to a "lower" level of preference until exhausted to find a translation.

Is this something that is on the cards for future development?
