Sadly, I can't test it on on any M chip, but browser extensions are platform independent, so there is no reason for it not to work. Try to uninstall it, then close Chrome and then install it back.
Also, make sure you don't use some app that could interfere with mouse buttons, for example recently someone reported that "Steermouse" app will break the extension.

Works fine on my 2020 Intel iMac, but cant get this working on Macbook Pro M3 Max. Frustrating as I loved this when on my iMac!
