Matter-rs

• New branch, sequential with changes to the Matter transport module (lives on top of the no_std branch and has everything no_std has
• The new transport (or rather, the new "exchange" metaphor) lives in modules exchange2 and mgr2 (for now)
• What it enables is a "sequential" style API (as opposed to the previous API which relies on explicit state machines) very similar to how one would handle a regular TCP/IP stream (i.e. send something, then receive something, then send something again and so on)
• The price is: this transport does require async (but not rust nightly!), so it can only be consumed with an async executor AND matter-rs is no longer transport agnostic in that it needs to explicitly call into the UDP stack (this restriction will be lifted once we have proper async traits in Rust stable and then matter-rs will become transport-agnostic again)

@bjoernQ - Is embassy operational on ESP bare-metal? How hard would it be to port the onoff_light2 example to bare-metal? Note: that would mean that (for now, until we have async traits in Rust stable) we need to implement - with #[cfg] - and inside matter-rs another UdpListener next to the existing STD one, based on - say - embassy-net. Note 2: any async executor allowing single-threaded execution would do. Like this one or this one, or of course embassy-executor.

  • works (to some extend on ESP32-C3)

  • commissioning via ChipTool works, can switch it on/off and toggle
  • commissioning via Google Home works, but it's shown as offline
    • however, when going to Details it talks to the device and gets the firmware version etc.

• tried to create a DHCP server with smoltcp
  • seems smoltcp drops packets from source 0.0.0.0
  • probably will create a PR for that
