"The normalize slices individually gave me an idea just now: if you normalize slices individually and then render them to a phrase, then in principle you can adjust the volume commands for each hit to recover the original velocity groove. Could that be made to occur automatically?
So in other words, slicing and rendering to phrase gives you a pattern which contains both the timing AND velocity groove of the break. Then when you start swapping in other normalized samples to vary the sounds, the velocity is already set."
