PSVue addon no longer accepting login credentials #43
Comments
Yes, I'm seeing that to. You're getting a 403 response. We'll need to look into this. |
Thanks for responding back so quickly Timothy; it's nice to know it's
not my imagination...
Just for my edification, what is a "403" response?

403 means forbidden. Basically the site said you were trying to access something you won't allowed too. This can also happen when the url to something changes. |
I'll look into this tonight. Looks like the login json info is missing or changed urls. |
Gents...
I'm attaching the kodi logfile that was generated when I first saw a
problem, before I tried logging out, then back into, PSVue. Unfortunately I
don't recall now what kodi reported as the problem (something to the effect
that the addon was unable to verify/receive confirmation of my
credentials), but perhaps the logfile will assist you with your forensics.
Thank you again for looking into this.

Looks like the android_tv device type id is no longer accepted. I changed it to the web3-w id and it seems to authenticate again. Please let me know if there are adverse issues with the change. I would recommend uninstalling and delete the psvue userdata folder before installing update. That way the authentication doesn't try to use any old cookie data. |
Hi SnoopyJoe,
I manually deleted the contents under
"home/.kodi/addons/plugin.video.psvue" (ubuntu install of kodi), extracted
the "plugin.video.psvue-testing.zip" archive contents to that same
directory, opened kodi, reset the defaults under "account info" of the
psvue addon so that it would ask for my credentials when I launched the
addon (which it, and I, did), and I am still getting the error (logfile
attached). Am I doing something wrong? Is there another location I should
be copying the extracted files to? Your email mentioned the android_tv
device type id; I am passing the hdmi output from my PC to my Onkyo
receiver, which in turn, passes the signal to the TV (Toshiba). I'm having
difficulty seeing how this may be contributing to the issue, but maybe...?
Or am I misinterpreting the function of the device type id?
I'm an engineer and not a total linux noob. but I may have missed an
essential step.
Thanks for your patience and assistance.

You will need to delete the psvue folder in the userdata folder. That folder stores all the cookie and login info. .Kodi/userdata/plugin.video.psvue |
I ensured that the psvue folder under "userdata" was deleted, but after
entering my credentials I am still getting the error and am unable to use
the addon.
At the risk of inundating you with unnecessary information, here's what
I've tried:
- I uninstalled the psvue addon, including all settings, and reinstalled
the addon using the both the "master" (located on GitHub) and "testing" zip
files (ubuntu bionic). No change.
- I did a complete clean install of ubuntu 18.04, adding kodi after ubuntu
was installed and fully updated, and finally, adding psvue using the two
aforementioned zip files. No change.
- I create monthly system images (backups) of both linux and windows, so
that if an OS update goes bad I can restore the system with minimal impact.
I restored an ubuntu image I had from earlier this month, before this issue
surfaced (meaning, psvue was logged in and working when I created the
backup). I honestly expected that because I had not logged out of psvue
before creating the backup, that psvue would launch with no issues after
the backup was restored. It didn't. However, the error message when trying
to launch psvue changed, it now says "Authorization Failed. Could Not
Retrieve Grant Code".
This problem is affecting Windows and Linux versions of Kodi where I have
logged out of psvue. I have two machines where I have not logged out of
psvue and they still work (one running Win7, the other xubuntu). This, I
believe, is true only because I have not logged out of psvue on either
machine. I have logged out of psvue on my office PC (again, Windows 7) and
have not been able to log back in. The same is true with Mint 17.3 running
Kodi 17.6; I logged out of psvue on that PC and now cannot get back in. I
have verified that there are no issues with my psvue account, plus I
created a temporary, new, account (the "free trial" I referred to in an
earlier email), and am able to log into, and watch, the web versions of
psvue using both accounts. Unfortunately the video quality of the web
versions cannot compete with the kodi addon. Nor, for that matter, can my
AppleTV steaming box. The kodi psvue addon has superior video quality, and
streaming options (using inputstream adaptive). that the other streaming
methods do not have. This is why the kodi addon is so important to me.
It seems that the addon recently began "breaking" somewhere between logging
out, and then logging back in. It also "feels" like the error reported by
kodi depends on whether the dependencies have been updated ("requests"
and/or "urlib3" in particular). These are guesses on my part, weakly based
on my observations. I do not know if the events are related or even
contributing.
I'm including a screenshot of the "Authorization Failed" message, plus its
associated log file. I apologize for the lengthy email. I'm hoping
something in all of this will be of some help.
Thank you again.

Timothy,
You mentioned you were seeing the logout/login issue with the psvue addon
in kodi. Have you seen (and if yes, installed) snoopyjoe's
"plugin.video.psvue-testing.zip" and/or "plugin.video.psvue-master.zip"
files? Did either work for you? I'm still unable to get the psvue addon to
work.
Thanks.

I'll do some more testing before sending another update. @eracknaphobia, seems the user needs to be logged in for the ssocookie url to work. I can log in from the grant code url but I need to be able to pass the credentials in the headers or payload. I'll work on it tonight and see what I can do. |
Still recieving the same error. I think I'm following your instructions correctly, however the plugin.video.psvue folder is not in the userdata folder exactly. My path located in
Log file from Sony Bravia Android TV I hope you find this information helpful. Thanks again for all the hard work that's gone into this addon. VegasChris, |
I'm not sure if the request module changed or if Sony changed, but I'm able to login again. Let me implement it in the code and I'll pay something or soon. |
Once the final patch is applied, would you mind making it ver. 2019.05.30 so we know when your all finished? Also, Not sure if this is up to you or not, but a lot of people rely on the official kodi repo. Might be a good idea to get the new one in there too. |
Hi snoopyjoe,
Are you saying that the addon just began to work for you, or were you
using an updated version? If updated, do you have an updated zip file I
could try? Nothing has changed on my end; those PC's which I have not
logged out of the psvue addon continue to work; those PC's I did logout
of will not let me back in (to psvue). I've tried removing and
reinstalling the addon from the kodi repository, the "testing" zip file,
and the "master" zip file; I still get "psvue error, see logfile for
more information".
Thank you for looking into this. I know it's not easy when there are so
many variables involved.

I just wanted to confirm that a solution has NOT yet been found for this issue? I'm still unable to log in on any platform besides the first party app or website. |
Hi Chris,
I'm a user like you, and I've been feeding snoopyjoe (and others) what
I've seen and what I've tried to resolve it, hoping the info will be

and it may take time to find a solution. In the meantime I'm using the

Hopefully it's not a problem with Sony...

The login url is giving a access denied error. Sony may have changed something for the login. We'll keep working on it to see whats changed. |
Is it possible that they're trying to prevent 3rd party app development? |
Has this issue been resolved. |
@eracknaphobia, may need your help with this one. I think Sony changed their authorization type but I can't find to what type. I ran out of time over the weekend trying to figure it out. |
Snoopyjoe et al,
Are the user credentials verified each time the PSVue addon is launched,
or only during login? I ask because I have two PC's (one Win7, the other
Xubuntu 18.4) running Kodi Leia, and one PC with Mint 17.3 (Kodi 17.6)
where I have not logged out of the addon, and they still work. My
observation has been that it is only after logging out, or after a
new/clean install of the addon, that the logon verification fails.

The login credentials are cached and only re-authenticated when the add-on gets a 401 error. |
Correct. Your session expires when the cookie expires. Then the add-on uses your login to start a new session. So anyone still logged in now should be fine until their session expires. All the URLs are fine and work but the ssocookie URL no longer takes the logins as we're currently passing them. Logging in else where then sending request to the URLs works perfectly. So all we need to do is figure the new way to send the login information. |
Snoopyjoe, when you say "logging in elsewhere" works, does this mean there
is a workaround that we can use until a permanent solution is implemented?
I can login to psvue several ways, either directly into my account, or
watching psvue channels using a web browser, but none of these ways appears
to open a backdoor to using kodi and the psvue addon.
If there's a workaround, can you share it?
Thanks.

I was able to get the login partially working. Still running into issues, almost seems like sony has a timeout between login attempts. |
That's as far as I got too. We're you able to log in from the ssocookie URL or from the grant code url? |
When I first saw this issue, I suspected a problem on Sony's end (I had
read conflicting stories on the internet regarding Sony locking an account,
and for how long: anywhere from hours to months). So I contacted Sony and
asked if I had exceeded the allowable number of active logins and/or
devices, and if there was some kind of hold or restriction placed on my
account. The answer was "no". I also asked if there was a record in their
system regarding which devices were active (I told him that I had an
AppleTV, cell phone, and multiple PC's accessing PSVue). My thought being,
if I had somehow exceeded the allowable number of devices, I would be able
to remove devices no longer in use from their (Sony's) account database.
Again, he said no, which I suppose could be true if Sony is only tracking
the number of streams actively accessing an account, not the devices
themselves.

ssocookie. Seems like there is an additional call needed to validate the device id before logging in, but I'm not certain yet. |
unfortunately I found everything else but I have not found the cookie tab (clicking on ssocookie then only shows header, preview, repsonse, and timing tabs). I have no idea why the cookie tab does not show up? |
It should always show a cookies tab unless you're clicking on the incorrect request or you logged in wrong. Almost every request should have cookie information. |
The ssocookie will be a XHR file |
Did you try widening the view or right clicking and select copy cookies? Looks like you just have everything squashed together. Your browser could be blocking the cookie. |
Tried widening the view, but no luck. Also when I double click on ssocookie, I get a new tab open and on that page is:{"npsso":"33zeA055hFeU9urt3R3YuzjdzntpzacoSoIJK89VUt6Cl1KQAC2wORnG56AqVYQJ"}. Strange, there are entries that I click on them the cookie tab shows up, so it appears (not sure if I am saying this correctly) that there is not a cookie associated with the ssocookie, so only the other tabs are visible... Just not sure if there is something in my settings that are missing something? Previously to be able to login to playstation vue on Chrome I had to allow 3rd party cookies, but not sure how the browser would be blocking cookies. But as you can see, still no cookie tab. Also, tried Firefox, the developer tools does have the cookie tab but I am not finding ssocookie. How is everyone else doing with the fix? |
Well, somehow I was able to get it to work. I was able to compare the my cookie.lwp file in my computers which did not have a problem to the one which PS Vue had the cookie issue. (I still was not able to get a cookie tab to show for ssocookie, but by looking at an auth setting which had cookies attached to it and found the npsso). I happen to notice the computer that was not working was missing a fourth area the cookie.lwp file (note below). Set-Cookie3: npsso=THIS IS WHERE I PASTED THE NPSSO CODE I FOUND; path="/"; domain="auth.api.sonyentertainmentnetwork.com"; path_spec; secure; expires="2019-08-22 18:16:29Z"; version=0 So I entered the npsso, and then copied the rest of the setting from the non-working computer, and took a logical leap on the expiration date, since I did not find that in the working computer. I also added the npsso to the settings.xml and everything ended up working. Not sure if this makes any sense but the damn thing works for now. |
IT IS WORKING AGAIN... On a whim, I did a reset ID and it is all working again. I did nothing else. Let's see how long this lasts..... |
I can confirm that @robmich55 solution worked. Tested on a remote device by resetting device ID then logging in again. |
I can also confirm that resetting device id has everything working again. |
Before I try doing the same, can you please tell me which version of the
psvue addon you are using? The official one in the Kodi repository, or
the trial version (with the default _abck cookie) available on Github? I
was just about to cancel my psvue subscription...

I don't use the repo versions but the GitHub version is the latest. Dated in june |
Resetting the device ID does not seem to be a wide spread fix. I've tried it to no success. |
I have to agree. It has not worked for me, either. |
Resetting the device ID did not work for me, either. |
Question: Does the resetting ID only work if you've done the workaround of getting a valid cookie from inspecting the website data? Because I haven't done that. I was wondering if those who have the ID reset working are those that previously did the workaround. |
That work around worked for me. We'll have to see how long it lasts. Update: After an undisclosed amount of time, clicking on any DVR episode prompts a message saying "This episode airs in the future". The only fix for this seems to be redoing the payload workaround. |
It was working but about 3 hours later, I started getting Playback Error, this episode has not aired yet. When I start Kodi now. On my other computer, when attempting to play a show, I get 'abck' cookie error. I did note something, from the fix I was able to do about 4 days ago by adding: Set-Cookie3: npsso=THIS IS WHERE I PASTED THE NPSSO CODE I FOUND; path="/"; domain="auth.api.sonyentertainmentnetwork.com"; path_spec; secure; expires="2019-08-22 18:16:29Z"; version=0 has now disappeared from the cookie.lwp file. |
@eracknaphobia That seems to have worked! Thank you! We were about to cancel our subscription! I hope that lasts, and I hope we can eventually find a more plug-and-play solution again. EDIT: It looks like the PS Vue EPG Build Service addon doesn't want to work with this method. When I select a channel, it does nothing. Unless I've done something wrong there. I'll pick my battles, though. Going through the regular add-on works fine. Thanks for all your great work! |
The Kodi repo version of the PSVue addon is, for the moment, working. I
have verified this on 4 PC's, including one using Kodi Krypton.
As a point of reference, I subscribed to SlingTV and compared it with
PSVue. While Sling offers a wide channel selection, especially sports,
their video quality is not on a par with PSVue. (I have a 100 Mbps
fiberoptic connection and noticed "choppiness" in the video stream of
several channels; something I do not see with PSVue. This choppiness or
stuttering was evident on all devices and apps (Chrome and Kodi),
including my AppleTV.) Also Sling no longer offers a free trial period
(although they do offer a 40% rate cut for the first month of service)
and I had to twist their arm to get a refund when I canceled.

Damn, I just updated my repo with a new version thinking I had finally cracked it, but seems both that the old kodi repo version and the newest release both work. Wish I would've read @mghalverson55 post before hand. Oh well, lets hope sony has settled down with all the changes. |
Just tried to update to the ps vue from the kodi repo, and now I'm getting login failure, and going back to @eracknaphobia addon continues to give cookie errors. EDIT: stupidly, I just needed to have the correct password |
I just uninstalled the "hacked" version of the addon from a PC I don't
care about (running Windows 7 and Kodi Leia 18.2), and reinstalled the
repo version (dated last year). I was able to login, chose my profile
(when asked by the addon), and am able to stream with no issues (as of
Aug 23, 10:00 PM PDT).
If/when you uninstall the addon, you have to make sure that you delete
the previous/old settings.xml and cookies.lwp files in the addon data
folder. If you're running Leia, the uninstall utility will ask if you
want to uninstall the addon PLUS any settings (the answer is "yes" to
both). If you're using Kodi Krypton then you have to manually remove the
settings, otherwise they'll be retained and you'll still get errors.

If/when you uninstall the addon, you have to make sure that you delete
the previous/old settings.xml and cookies.lwp files in the addon data
folder. If you're running Leia, the uninstall utility will ask if you
want to uninstall the addon PLUS any settings (the answer is "yes" to
both). If you're using Kodi Krypton then you have to manually remove
the settings, otherwise they'll be retained and you'll still get errors.

Simply performing a logout after updating / downgrading seemed to work for me. |
Likewise.

The only channels that give me that message are CuriosityStream and
Playstation Emerging Filmmakers; all others appear to be streaming
normally (even after I log out and back in and/or reset the device ID).

Ok, so the last couple days we've had a new problem. The addon logs in
ok, but now no channels will play. They all give the error, "This
episode hasn't aired yet." I've logged out and back in, and have reset
the device ID, it's still the same error for all channels.

I can confirm that the newest version from the Github repo is working fine on my devices as well. Thanks very much to @eracknaphobia and all other contributors!
@hackthis02, @clonesr1: Unfortunately, issues mentioned in #45 have survived all the drama of the last weeks/months and are still there. Now that the login procedure is back to being stable again (at least for the moment) I really hope somebody can find time and help to resolve these issues. |
As of approx. 1 week ago, when I sign out of PSVue within Kodi, and then attempt to sign back in, I receive a "PSVue error, check the log for more information". It APPEARS to be concurrent with a recent update of the dependencies, but I am not sure. This issue is affecting both the Windows and Linux versions of Kodi 18.2. Also, if I do NOT sign out of PSVue (I have Kodi and the PSVUE addon installed on multiple computers), I am able to use the addon with no problems. The issue surfaces only after signing out. I contacted Sony and verified that my account is not being blocked or limited in any way (I can access the web version of PSVue, plus my AppleTV streaming box is not experiencing issues). Also, as a test, I created a new, temporary (free trial) PSVue account and attempted to log into it via Kodi and the PSVue addon, and it still failed. Finally, I did a clean install of Kodi and the addon on two PC's, one Windows, the other Linux (Ubuntu), and had the same result. I'm attaching the kodi error log for reference.
This is a great addon, thanks for the help.
Thank you.
