Many things broken when recordings directory is not writeable #4

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Create directory
  2. Copy video into it
  3. Make directory unwriteable chmod 000 dir
  4. Open narrator and point to video
  5. Select same directory as video to store it

Expected outcome: The narrator raises an error alerting the user that the directory is not writeable
Actual outcome: Most functions are silently broken. Backwards doesn't work. Record doesn't work
