Allow setting Avatar from Gravatar explicitly

How about downloading the image once and storing it the same way as uploaded by user?

@steelman true but I just wanted to say: Don't take the risk as in that case riot is the one who uploaded it. If the user uploads he is the person who (could) get problems.

which is why it should be explicit, not implicit, the user should have to confirm this

IANAL but IMHO it is the user who pushes the button "get my avatar from gravatar". This is how I see this feature. As a shortcut for echo + md5 + wget + a few clicks.

Please remember to allow a user to chose which e-mail address to use to get an avatar.

Just to mention it could also be possible to use https://www.avatars.io/ :) (Provides too Gravatar and supports some other services as well)

Instead of bantering about legal and surverlance issues, we should focus on implementing this feature as optional, leaving the debate to server administrators. ;)
