Latest version will not compile

I tried to compile the latest release on Ubuntu 16.04, but the compile would not complete and would always exit giving an error with the cryptonote-util part of the pool software.

I am using Ubuntu 17.10, but 16.10 also had the same issue. I installed all the required dependencies. Is there anything I am missing?
