Your projects are impressive, @eivindbohler!

Can you please publish somewhere a CPUID dump of Vortex86EX?

As you mentioned at Vogons - it seems Vortex86EX can't keep up with some of the GPUs you tried. Have you considered:

  • RDC products such as EmKore, maybe related to Vortex86DX3?
  • XLichip products such as R30460, maybe related to Vortex86EX2?

Legacy I/O they miss I assume can be implemented via the add-ons you already made or with CH368 (supports memory mapping and "BusMaster/ DMA") or ASIX AX99100 bridges.

As last resort, in case available I/O is insufficient you may use HDA for audio (DOS, Win9x) and USB for some I/O (1, 2).

It would be nice if possible to arrange the backpanel ports in such a way that the first slot can use a PCB riser to place a card horizontally with its ports going out through the backpanel.

Sizes:

  • Mini-ITX with 1 AGP (Pro) slot, PCB riser for
    • AGP to 2x PCI (at 33MHz)
    • AGP to AGP and PCI (along with a way to choose between 33MHz/66MHz... unfortunately I assume both slots will have to be with the same frequency)
  • Mini-DTX with 1 AGP (Pro), 1 PCI, 1 ISA (and maybe M.2 PCIe)
  • Micro-ATX with 1 AGP (Pro), 1 PCIe (x16 physical and whatever number of lanes are available electrically), 2 PCI, 1 ISA (if needed, more ISA slots would be easier to add via risers/cables than PCI?).

Sorry for posting here, but at ITX Llama I couldn't open Issue/Discussion.
