Can't set fan mode while in cooling-mode

Having an odd issue, I can't use ESPHome to set the fan-speed when my unit is set to cooling mode.

It works as expected in heating-mode and fan-only mode (can set any fan speed) but if I set the fan-speed while its in cooling-mode it ALWAYS reverts to "auto" after a moment.

With the OEM remote, I can set the fan speed to any of auto/low/med/high in cooling mode for a continuous-fan.

Using the SLWF-01pro (v.2.1) on a Whynter ARC-1230WNH (same as Midea Duo 14000 BTU Inverter Portable Heat Pump)
