I'm interested exactly by the same question :)
Well i've considered to dig into their app to study the code to solve that question mostly to export the highlights.

@MorganGeek Fabulous! I don't use Headway, it was a family member who asked me this question. Can you attempt to write up what you can do with Headway? I can help you with the format and such. All articles in this repository are public domain (creative commons licensed) and I'm starting to host the articles at portmap.dtinit.org which is very much a work in progress so pardon the awkward design and starter-level content.
