I can see the output with VLC, and fakecam show up in Teams, but when I choose it, I get a black box with no video.

This should be fixed now. Can you try again, please?

For me this is still black when using stable version form snap store or building the version myself:

git clone https://github.com/diddlesnaps/fakecam.git
cd fakecam
git reset --hard 22fb3f1
SNAPCRAFT_BUILD_ENVIRONMENT_MEMORY=8G snapcraft

yup, same here,
used snapcraft instructions,, fakecam app works good, gets image, blurs, sets custom background. Once I want to use fakecam camera in MSTeams I get only a black screen.
Fakecam installed with snap,
Microsoft Teams Version 1.4.00.7556 (64-bit),
Ubuntu 20.10, 64-bit, gnome 3.38.3, X11,
Linux 5.8.0-53-generic #60-Ubuntu SMP x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
once connected to a meeting I also get a notification from MST:

We couldn't use your webcam for video.
