I have a document with a series of news summaries. I want to extract the text and convert it into a R dataframe. Each row will include a variable called 'text' with the summary text and a variable called 'source' with the news source. All of the source names are hyperlinked to a URL (see below for an example). Can I use the officer package to identify hyperlinked text when I read the text into R? I have successfully imported the data into R, but when I import it, the hyperlinks are not identified.
Example text:
The New York Times (8/28, Harris, Subscription Publication, 11.82M) notes that “Obama’s goals have always gone beyond simply fixing messes that he inherited” and into repairing “centuries-old inequities.” In his remarks Thursday, the President “explicitly linked New Orleans’s recovery from Hurricane Katrina to the nation’s recovery from the 2008 recession.” The New Orleans Times-Picayune (8/28, Rainey, 718K) says Obama tapped into “a theme often repeated during this weeklong build-up to the anniversary of Katrina’s landfall 10 years ago this Saturday: That the city is on the mend and on the rise, but also that it stands a substantial risk of backsliding” toward the “social ills often faced by impoverished, violent and racially tense American cities.”
WWL-TV New Orleans (8/28, 6:02 p.m. CDT, 105K) said the President toured “some of the city’s hardest-hit areas.” The city’s Sanchez Center was “a packed house with hundreds of New Orleanians anxious to hear the President’s perspective both in terms of the progress the city has made but also the work that is still yet to be done.” WVUE-TV New Orleans (8/28, 5:34 p.m. CDT, 92K) reported that the President said “people in this area have demonstrated extraordinary resilience,” and called New Orleans “an example of what can happen when people rally to build a better future after facing an extraordinary challenge.”
