Justin Murphy and the broader otherlife community are probably worth shilling to. This also brings up the idea of 'community level reputation and/or pledges'. i.e. "10 members of otherlife (or perhaps associates of ~ripwet somehow) contributed $1500 to X campaign". This might be able to help do things like have multiple communities come together to fund feature requests and based on what the community raises they can send a representative to code reviews or to be included in the process or something.
