"Could an "as the crow flies" mode be possible -- not so much for aerial cycling, but in the absence of routing (no mobile coverage) etc. Just a general straight line to the destination from the current location to give a rough inidication of direction/distance?"
I can see this might sometimes be useful when there is no mobile coverage and the user is using offline maps mode.
