Improving community contributions with Gitpod #562
Comments
Oh hey! This is probably a better fit for servicedesk: https://github.com/cncf/servicedesk - submit a PR there! |
@pawlean If you would like, we have some meetings as a group and we would be happy to get more information. https://tockify.com/cncf.public.events/monthly?search=Contributor%20Strategy
I am more interested in talking about how this feature you've suggested can be leveraged in other CNCF projects and repositories, other than this repository. This repository is a non-tech repo with low code frequency. |
Hey @aliok! Thanks for your response. I wasn't in the last one, but I'll join you for the 11th.
My aim was to discuss the ways we can include Gitpod as part of the contributor strategy, for example, recommending using a Gitpod workspace for contributors to allow for faster and better contributions with low friction. Is that something we can discuss in the TAG meeting? |
Hi @pawlean, GitPod is already on the tools list over on service desk. Maybe you could open a PR here referring to tools in general liking to that service page? This would make all the tools more prominently visible to contributors. |
Hi, everyone!
I'm Pauline, from Gitpod. A friend [1] recently recommended that I speak to you folks about supporting contributions across the wider CNCF community.
We recently partnered up with the Linux Foundation [2], offering 250 hours of Gitpod's Cloud Development Environment (CDE) usage completely free as part of our Open Source Plan [3]
Every CNCF project is eligible!
Proposed solution
Getting Started with Gitpod
To quickly start, open this link: https://gitpod.io/#github.com/cncf/tag-contributor-strategy to create a CDE for this repository.
A Cloud Development Environment (CDE) will be created for you with your preferred editor (such as VSCode, Jetbrains, or SSH). All the necessary dependencies are automatically installed, and the crossplane source code will be pre-built according to the .gitpod.yml file, this allows you to get started in just a few seconds.
Let me know if you have any questions! I also cross-posted this in the CNCF community channel. Happy to discuss where the best place for this is - we want to spread the word as much as possible!
