Typically I expect that I can compile C code provided that I have first installed build-essential:

sudo apt install -y build-essential

With this I'm just getting error and after error and I don't know what to install to get past them.

Right now I'm getting:

./configure: line 4917: LT_INIT: command not found
checking that generated files are newer than configure... done
configure: creating ./config.status
config.status: error: cannot find input file: `Makefile.in'
make: *** [Makefile:40: libmill/.libs/libmill.a] Error 1

I have installed libtool:

sudo apt install -y libtool libtool-bin
sudo ldconfig
