Consider supporting a backend server (optional) with the server url being a stored preference.
The server could be in flask or spring-boot - just a rest interface for managing the data.
This would be a self-hosted server with no security credentials.
Might have to have the UI served up by it - cross site scripting restrictions and stuff.
