Landed with a bit of a thud. Little student engagement. Some ideas for next time:

  • It's midway in the semester. Don't need to start with assumptions they know nothing. Maybe jump from a brief definition of Git/GitHub to a recall exercise asking students to define what they have done so far in the class for stage/commit/push (a la INFO 1300)
  • Make it more hands on and get them to do the exercises
  • Trim the fat. Not sure what to cut
  • Tone down the consent analogy
  • Fix it so the initial repo they clone is specific to this class. The old one had an Rmd file in it. It can still be hosted on ordinary GitHub but need it in the cis-ds course org
