Why are there ads on Carbon?

It’s a good question! We have long avoided advertising on Carbon, looking out for many alternative monetization options.

However, some of these options have encouraged us to block releasing new features unless they were behind a paywall, which is ultimately not that great for our users. Having a continuous revenue stream enables us to explore more costly improvements for Carbon.

So, we are trying this out to see how it goes, starting with a one-month trial. We aren’t committing to advertising forever. We want to strike a balance of making Carbon a self-sustaining application while also providing a great experience for our users. This is our next attempt at that.
