You could show different regexes in increasing complexity to show people upfront what the tool is all about and how the representation would look like. (just like in the README.md of this repo)
This would help in immediately creating understanding & "selling" the tool, right now it takes people a couple attempts to actually understanding what it's about.
One example of doing that would be to show a random regex whenever the user reloads the website.
Another idea would be to have an arrow on the right side of the page, indicating that the user can swipe or click the arrow to show a regex example, with another example on the next swipe, etc, with increasing complexity. (The line segments on the sides could even extend to the sides of the page to "connect the rails" between the different examples).
