First suggestion. When tab on an emote in the chat it will pop-up something like this:
if it's too much work you can just add "use emote" pop-up only. When tab on use emote the emote name will appear in the text box.
Second suggestion. When typing something that related to the emotes name, suggest emotes will appear above the text like this:

Regarding the second feature: That is already a (somewhat hidden) feature in the Twitch App, which bttv-android supports. Just type a colon (:) and then emotes will be suggested for you.
The "use emote" button should paste the emote into the text field, do I understand that correctly?

Oh, I never knew colon suggested other emote outside of the simple ones. Thanks for informing me.
And yes, the "use emote" is essentially a copy&paste bottom, however it won't be copy to clipboard but directly paste to the text field. As for the "copy" it's the one that copy to clipboard
