README for gridpacks on cvmfs prepared by Bockjoo Kim on 29APRIL2020
[1] What are gridpacks?
They are the input files created by various HEP event generators and used to create the MC samples.
They are compressed files with extensions .tar.xz, .tar.gz, or tgz.
[2] Logistics of the gridpacks to cvmfs
Various physics groups produce the compressed gridpack files generators and put them on the EOS space
under /eos/cms/store/group/phys_generator/cvmfs/gridpacks
Newly generated gridpacks need to be copied to the cvmfs so that jobs that use the gripacks can read
the gridpack files from cvmfs.
[3] How are gridpacks copied to cvmfs?
/eos is not available on the machine of cvmfs management.
It has to be user-mounted, which requires a X509 grid proxy and the EOS client tools.
Once the EOS gripacks directory is mounted, one just has to rsync.
cron_rsync_generator_package_from_eos_individual.sh is doing the job.
