The current document shows the ABNF for emailAddress as pulled from RFC 4151, but there is a verified errata for RFC 4151 that suggests a change in what was originally in the RFC to
emailAddress = addr-spec
; addr-spec from RFC 2822/5322
Changing this in did:tag may help with the internationalisation issue mentioned, but would no longer be conformant to the DID syntax. A method to resolve the conformance would be needed, such as %-encoding all characters except for ALPHA / DIGIT / "." / "-" / "" as noted in the errata. This would also allow for email addresses that have symbols other than "-", ".", and "" (such as "+").
Keeping it as is should probably include text in the document that indicates knowledge of the errata but that did:tag uses the original version to be conformant to the DID syntax.
