Hi Ben! As always, Chataigne is an amazing product, thank you so much for it! Merci!

Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe.
We are a poor startup and we work on audiovisual projects. We believe the best way to work with our projects is to add quite a few sequences per project, typically 10-12. We aslo like to store multiple projects in one file, so that changing from a project to a project goes smoothly. For us having so many sequences visible at once is challenging and frustrating.

Describe the solution you'd like
We would love to group sequences by projects so that they would be more reachable for us. In other words, we would like to select all related sequences > click right mouse button > select Group (or Ungroup) from a pop-up menu > rename the default group name.

As a result

  • Only a single group line in the sequence panel would show instead of all the sequences
  • When clicking the group, all grouped sequences would show below the group line
  • Ideally, the sequences in the group would be shown indented to highlight where the grouped sequences start and end
  • It would be possible to drag and reorder groups and sequences within groups as it is now possible to reorder sequences.

Describe alternatives you've considered
Conductor, but when dealing with lighting control, it is so much easier to move triggers on a timeline and to get an easy overview of triggers.

Additional context
We believe sequence names within a file should still remain unique, even if creating a sequence in a group that wouldn't have a sequence with the same name. If they didn't have unique names, this could cause issues when ungrouping and they would need to be automatically renamed.

Hello and thank you for the feedback,
yes grouping is one of the major rewrites that a lot of people are waiting, not just for sequences but for the whole manager system.
This is a potential breaking change that will have many repercussions so it needs time to make it right. It has been in the roadmap and in my mind for 2 years already but couldn't find time and resources to get on it.

Hopefully this year changes a bit and I can finally get on this one for good
